A family carries a young girl.
Dmitry and Corrina Babayev’s 2-year-old daughter, Layla, was born with a rare genetic disease that caused serious gastrointestinal problems. Doctors diagnosed it with the help of rapid whole-genome sequencing, a test that analyzes a patient’s complete DNA makeup to identify genetic disorders. Unlike standard genetic tests that can take weeks or months for results, the test can provide answers within a week or less. The Babayevs credit the test for helping save Layla’s life.
