Alleged knife assailant fatally succumbs to deputy reprisal

LAKEPORT >> A male subject allegedly attempted an assault with a knife according to reports relayed to the Lake County Sherrif’s Office on November 16.

Deputies responded to the 100 block of Dixon Drive, Lakeport and there attempted to interact with the suspect, who by the time of their arrival clearly saw the suspect was also in possession of a firearm, according to Lauren Berlinn, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies made numerous attempts to dispel and de-escalate the situation. But the subject refused to comply with the deputies, Berlinn went on. Gunfire was exchanged. Medical personnel were then summoned. However, the subject
having been struck by gunfire, was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.

Deputies remained on the incident scene and cooperating with the Lake County District Attorney’s Office to conduct an investigation into this incident. The Lake County District Attorney’s Office is the lead investigating agency per Lake County’s Critical Incident Protocol.
