New Year is a year-end holiday to enjoy and for some one of the most important times of the year when people get to see friends, family and colleagues they have not  have seen for quite some time. Police agencies throughout the county are urging safety for local drivers on this holiday.

As the weekend approached and the New Years’ Eve celebration, Lake County police Lt. Dale Stoebe reminded everybody that this area is in store for some rough weather.

“Along with the expectation of wet and windy weather, drivers are strongly encouraged to use extreme caution and your vehicles’ lighting equipment to navigate Lake County roadways,” he said. “If you have not installed new wiper blades on your vehicle since summer, make that a top priority.”

Stoebe went on that most auto parts stores will install them for free.
“If you plan on drinking alcoholic beverages, we also recommend you plan on a sober Designated Driver,” he said.

Law enforcement officers from all county law enforcement agencies will be looking for intoxicated drivers.  “Don’t make us ruin your fun”, he added.

Lakeport Police Chief Rasmussen included a caution on the Lakeport Police Department’s webpage. “We wish you a happy and safe holiday,” he said. “Season’s greetings everyone. We’re reminding you to prioritize safety this festive season. Whether you are decorating or enjoying Holiday Lights or traveling to visit family- be aware of your surroundings. And if you are celebrating with alcohol please designate a driver …  have a safe and joyous holiday season.”
