LAKEPORT >> Not to be overshadowed by the many end-of-year-best-of-lists, the first baby born in Lake County in 2024 had a photo finish with father time when the tiny tot inhaled her initial breath just prior to the first day expiring.
The newborn graced past her opening curtain at 10:26 p.m. New Year’s Day, in the Sutter Lakeside Hospital. Jayline Mora-Rivera weighed in at 6 pounds 6 ounces. Her five-year-old brother, Dylan Mora-Rivera waited at home with joyful anticipation to meet his younger sister noted their mother Janette Mora-Rivera, as the father Gustavo Mora-Cuevas Looked on the scene filled with pride.
“I’m very happy,” Janette said. “I didn’t expect the birth since Jayline arrived three days ahead of the due date doctors had predicted,” she said. But one thing the family did plan was to have their second child born at Sutter even though the family lives in Clearlake. Janette explained her five-year-old son was born at Sutter as well. “The nurses are very kind and attentive, ” she said. “I feel very well treated. A little tired now but the birth team prepared me well (for what to expect), and I was very impressed with the anesthesiologist and the other doctors and now her older brother is very happy about her birth.” Added Janette’s husband, Gustavo, “We were very grateful for the gifts,” he expressed their appreciation.
Arranging for the generous donation of gifts were RN Clare Tanti, and RN Meagan Gard who helped put together the coordinated gift baskets. Donors comprised both groups and individuals from around Lakeport and Kelseyville. Kamlin Fasano, Sutter business development specialist assisted coordinating the overall team for the birth due date.
RN Laurie De Leon noted that Janette and Gustavo’s family was expected to return to Clearlake on Tuesday. “Twenty-four hours is the usual release date for birth,” she said. “They usually want to get home as soon as possible to be with the rest of the family- and get the baby comfortable in her own bed. This is the best job on the planet- helping our moms and their babies. It’s always special to bring that newborn baby into the New Year,” she added.
