The bass fishing on Clear Lake should improve with some nice-sized bass being caught. With an improvement in the weather the fishing should definitely improve
The bass have also been holding tight to the docks or even the pilings. A few bass have been holding tight to edges of the docks’. The good news is that bass have been weighing in the 2-5 pound class. There are several tournaments scheduled in the coming weeks. The hot spots have been Henderson point, Shag Rock, and the area around Rattlesnake Island. In the North End, Rocky Point is a good bet. The trick to success is to be patient. The water temperature has been as cold as 48 degrees early in the morning but it has warmed by noon. The top lures have been lipless retrieved slowly Plastic swimbaits
There is still a lot of bait fish in the lake and the bass have been feeding on them. The water in most areas is slightly off color as a result of the recent storms. The fish being caught have been in excellent condition. The hot spots are the docks along Glenhaven and at Clearlake Oaks.
The weather forecast calls for sunny warm weather the next five days which means good news for the fishermen on Clear Lake. Many of the anglers haven’t been out on the lake for more than a week. The bass should also be staging and moving into the shallow water.
The north end of the lake is also starting produce some bass. Rocky Point is worth a try. Work your lures carefully around the submerged rocks, The lake is at the nearly full mark of a plus 7.48 feet on the Rumsey Gauge and slowly climbing. The lake is considered full at a plus 7.56 feet Rumsey.
In addition to the bass, the lake is also producing plenty of bluegill and catfish. A few have anglers located schools of crappie in the deeper water. They have been locating the crappie using their electronics and have been catching them on red-white crappie jigs.
Upper Blue Lake was stocked with trout last week and should offer good fishing for the next two weeks. The lake is in great shape should be good for trout and bass.
On the hunting scene most of the seasons are now closed with the exception of wild pigs. Lake County has a fair number of wild pigs with most of them located on the ranches. Be sure and get permission to hunt on the ranches. The last thing you want to do is receive a trespassing ticket.
The Clear Lake State Park has been closed because of storm damage but should reopen within a few days. There were a number of downed trees throughout the park. The road up to Mount Konocti is open for hikers.
