News reports say that the economy is good and inflation is coming down.

I’m not feeling it. A bag of groceries hurts more than my back.

I’ve had to cut out too many of my favorite foods. Mostly junk food but isn’t junk food some of life’s pleasures?

The cats eat way too much, they use the kitty litter too much. Don’t they understand these things cost money? What do they do all day except eat, sleep, poop? If I buy cheap food, I’m afraid they’ll be unhealthy. If I buy good food, my budget is blown.

Every day I’m seeing reports that the economy is good. Who is feeling that? Tell me.

It’s too soon to put in my vegetable garden so I can feed myself rather than Costco feeding me.

BTW, who snacks on food samples offered up at Costco? I’ve never ever eaten a sample food offered from any store. I think it might be a germ thing. Samples just creep me out.

I’m also creeped about pancake restaurants. When I was in my 20s, I worked at one. My husband at the time worked at a radio station, making $50 a week. My pay with tips at the pancake place was $40 a week. Long ago when the Legionnaires Disease broke out my husband got sick. I was sick as well but we needed the money to pay our rent of $90/month. He stayed home and I went to work. Sick. In between serving my customers I’d run to the loo where I got sick, washed my hands and ran back to the kitchen for another order to deliver. I did that all day. I’ve often wondered how many people I made sick trying to earn that important $40.

There were other nightmares I could tell about that pancake house, so many that I’ve a lifelong ban on them.

Back to the economy…when the Russians invaded Ukraine and the U.S. delivered aid to the Ukrainians, I was happy to help even if it meant that prices here would go up and I’d be affected. Last week a bill tied Ukraine funding to the border and immigration faced objections after Donald Trump pushed his GOP supporters to oppose the legislation unless it was amended to address immigration. In my opinion, cutting aid to Ukraine would not be a good move. The world doesn’t need Putin to bulldoze Ukraine or any other country. I will continue to sacrifice (high food prices, etc.) to help Ukraine win against Russia.

That’s my soapbox pitch. I’m not a political person but I do have strong beliefs and sometimes I need to let them be known.

What’s a girl to do?…vote! And be more creative on how to make my money stretch.
