Hotcakes for Heroes

Operation Tango Mike and the Kelseyville Lions will co-host “Hotcakes For Heroes” on Saturday, March 16, at the Kelseyville Presbyterian Church, located at 5340 Third Street.

The breakfast will feature hotcakes, along with choices of sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy.  Beverages include juice and coffee.  You may also order the deluxe version, by simply requesting “the works.”

Operation Tango Mike volunteers will take orders and serve patrons.

The event will run from 8 to 11 a.m., with a suggested donation of $10.

Proceeds benefit Operation Tango Mike in the ongoing effort to ship monthly care packages to deployed military personnel.

Operation Tango Mike is marking 21 continuous years of supporting the troops and has shipped more than 26,000 care packages.

Care packages are shipped to many countries, wherein deployed troops often have difficulty obtaining supplies and are in harm’s way.  In fact, there has never been a month that Operation Tango Mike has not shipped to “boots on the ground” in Iraq, since the all volunteer non-profit began in 2003.

Currently, monthly shipping fees alone average $2000.  Coupled with the increasing costs of care package supplies, the all-volunteer non-profit spends an average of nearly $5,000 per month to send the much needed and appreciated care packages.

Good Farm Fund: Farm grant program is open for applications, due Friday

The Good Farm Fund is now accepting grant applications from farms in Mendocino and Lake counties for this year’s farm grant cycle. The farm grants are made possible by individual donors, small business sponsors, last year’s farm-to-table dinner fundraising series at Mendocino Grove, and grant funding from Redwood Credit Union.

These micro grants can be used for any number of on-farm projects. Past grant recipients have expanded irrigation systems, built cold storage facilities, increased the size of their chicken flock, purchased new tools and implements; the list goes on.

“Agriculture is such an integral part of our region, and the farmers and farm workers in Lake and Mendocino counties cultivate not only sustenance for our families to live on, but also a sense of happy and healthy communities,” says Matt Martin, Senior Vice President of Community and Government Relations at Redwood Credit Union. “This is why Redwood Credit Union is proud to support the Farm Grant Program sponsored by the Good Farm Fund.”

The Good Farm Fund is a volunteer-driven community organization dedicated to providing direct support to small farmers in Mendocino and Lake counties, as well as increasing local food access for underserved members of our community. Since 2015, the project has granted over $350,000 to small farms and ranches for critical infrastructure projects, and an additional $100,000 in grants for fire resilience and recovery. The Good Farm Fund also supports the Market Match Program at Mendocino and Lake County farmers markets. The Good Farm Fund is a fiscally sponsored program of North Coast Opportunities, the Community Action Agency serving Lake & Mendocino counties.

Interested applicants can review the application guidelines and apply at www.goodfarmfund.org.

Applications are due by March 15, 2024. Grant awards will be announced April 15.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

Jehovah’s Witnesses launch invitation campaign: Northern California residents invited to two special events this month

While the date Sunday, March 24, may pass imperceptibly for many, millions around the world will gather at sundown to  commemorate the death of Jesus Christ.

Considered the most important day of the year for Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Memorial is observed annually. Though there are over 8.6 million Jehovah’s Witnesses around the world, over 20 million people attended the event last year.

“The Memorial of Jesus’ death reminds us of the greatest act of love to be carried out on behalf of mankind. For this reason, we consider it a very special day,” said Edgar Arias, local spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses. “We extend a warm invitation to our local community to join us in this commemoration.”

The one-hour event will feature a talk highlighting the significance of Jesus’ death and what it means for all of mankind.

Titled “The Resurrection—Victory Over Death!”, a special public talk will be delivered at local Kingdom Halls on the weekend of March 16 and 17, 2024. This 30-minute, Bible-based public discourse will focus on the scriptural hope of a resurrection of the dead in the near future.

“For my wife Deb and I, attending the Memorial is a way we can show our appreciation for God’s act of love and kindness,” said Stu Coley from Northern California, who has been attending for over 50 years. “We have the opportunity to pause, reflect, and meditate on what was done for us, moving us to want to do more for others.”
