Inaugural Lake County health summit addresses shortage of healthcare workers in Lake County

The Lake County Healthcare Education and Workforce Summit held on April 18, 2024, brought together key stakeholders from various sectors to address the challenges and develop solutions for training healthcare workers in Lake County. Led by the North Far North Regional Consortium, Redwood Region K16 Educational Collaborative, Workforce Alliance of the North Bay, Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Mendocino Lake Adult Career Education, Lake County Office of Education, Mendocino College, College of the Siskiyous, and Shasta College, the event aimed to foster collaboration and innovation in healthcare workforce development.

Sharon Goldfarb, the event’s keynote speaker and distinguished expert in healthcare, emphasized the importance of investing in workforce development and fostering strong partnerships between healthcare organizations and educational institutions. Her insights highlighted the need for tailored approaches to address the unique healthcare needs of Lake County, as outlined in the most recent Community Health Needs Assessment.

To further the momentum generated by the summit, plans are underway to establish a Lake County Healthcare Workforce Collaborative. This collaborative effort will focus on engaging the community to identify barriers to healthcare job recruitment, retention, and access to training programs. By piloting solutions and securing resources for implementation and sustainability, the collaborative aims to create career pathways that empower local residents while addressing the healthcare needs of the community.

For those interested in getting involved or learning more about a Lake County Healthcare Workforce Collaborative, reaching out to the Lake County Chamber of Commerce at ceo@lakecochamber.com or calling 707.263.5092 would be a valuable next step. This initiative underscores the importance of collective action and partnership in building a resilient healthcare workforce to serve Lake County effectively.
