SOUTH LAKE COUNTY— On Saturday night June 8, Hidden Valley Lake and the Greenview kicked off the summer season of Concerts on the Green with hundreds folks participating in dancing, food and cocktails on a beautiful evening near the ninth green. An armada of golf carts ringed the action while picknickers spread their blankets and thronged the tables. The Still Kickin’ band entertained with covers primarily from the 60s and 70s. The small fry were bopping with some interesting new dance moves while grownups grooved around them.

This weekend kicks off Middletown Days.  Friday evening features Slack, the Farmers Market and 6 p.m. Team Roping. Saturday hosts a 10 a.m. Parade, a noon Barbecue and Playday, a 1 p.m. Cornhole Tourney, Line Dancing, Parade Awards, a 2 p.m. Jr/Sr Round-up, a 2:30 p.m. Cutest Cowboy/Girl Contest, a 4 p.m. Mutton Busting event and 9 p.m. Dancing Under the Stars with Breaker One 9. Sunday will feature an 8 a.m. Lioness Father’s Day Breakfast, 9 a.m. Cowboy Church, 11 a.m.  Cornhole championships, a noon Gymkhana & Bloody Mary Horseshoe Tourney, a Dusk-Queen’s Raffle and a Hide Ride & Rescue Race. There will be vendors and entertainment all day Saturday and Sunday with a Silent Auction at the Lion’s Building. It all takes place at 15299 Central Park Road, Middletown. The Middletown Art Center (MAC) has the opening reception for their new show The Space Between on June 15 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. “This evocative group show brings together a diverse array of regional artists, both familiar and new, to explore and express their unique spiritual journeys through a variety of artistic mediums.” The show includes the work of Adi Da Samraj, (1939-2008) an artist and spiritual teacher who established his first sanctuary in Lake County 50 years ago. Free to the public, The Space Between will be open Thursday-Monday, 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. or by appointment through September 8.

On Wednesday, June 19 from 5 to 9 p.m. MAC will celebrate JUNETEENTH, Open Hearts, Open Minds, a conversation about Juneteenth with Voris Brumfeld, Randall Cole, Delores Farrell, Kamelle Leggette and Aqeela Markowski hosted by Sabrina Klein with opening works by Reverand Clovice Lewis. The $10 event will include music by Howard Reggie Dockens and Gloria Scott with food and beverages for purchase and music and dance for all. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
