KELSEYVILLE>> On Friday, the Kelseyville graduating Class of 2024 celebrated with fireworks after 102 seniors walked the stage to collect their diplomas, officially graduating, and exiting high school student life.
The KHS Senior Band opened the ceremony with their performance of the National Anthem, followed by a land acknowledgment from Hunter Melvin and Diego Lopez who both expressed gratitude for the local Native American tribes recognizing each one individually. Together they shared that it has been 100 years since native individuals have held citizenship, as well as stating, “We recognize the community of Kelseyville has benefitted from the use and occupation of this land, consistent with our values of community and diversity we have a responsibility to acknowledge.”
The welcome speech was made by Nicholas Del Bosco, followed by its Spanish counterpart by Izellah Covarrubias who was also recognized as Class President. During her speech Covarrubias shared “Time in life will not wait for us, so we must keep moving forward.”
Valedictorian David Wilkes addressed his classmates. He said, “The only piece of advice I can think to give my fellow graduates that has any great impact on my life is as follows: people will underestimate you. They will discourage you. Don’t let them be right, don’t let them win. Only you have the power to dictate what you are capable of.” Salutatorian Elliott Mayo spoke prior to all of the students walking the stage, after which the commencement concluded with a fireworks display.
The Lake County Record Bee would like to congratulate the KHS graduated class of 2024.
