Inaugural Lake Fest a huge success
Lake County Fair hosted the first annual Lake Fest Competition where 14 Lake County cannabis farms competed for the Lake Fest Cup.
Approximately 500 people spent their day learning from educational speakers, like Swami Chaitanya and Nikki Lastreto (pictured here) listening to great music, eating wonderful, good food and sharing lots of comradery.
The Budtender’s Choice Award went to Clover Valley Farm of Upper Lake. The People’s Choice Award went to Naughty Squirrel of Lower Lake, and the Professional Choice Award went to Ghost Dance Farms of Lower Lake, who also won the inaugural Lake Fest Cup.
This endeavor, the first of its kind by a District Agricultural Association, would not have been possible without the support from California Department of Food & Agriculture, the 14 Farms who submitted their product, the California State Fair, the local distribution and dispensary business, the event committee who spent countless hours planning and promoting this event, and the local community for their backing of this educational event for local agriculture product.

Clearlake Bassmasters and Lake County Sheriff’s Activities League enjoy successful collaboration
On June 15th, twenty-one young persons who gathered at Library Park in Lakeport were given the opportunity to learn and practice fishing skills. Collaboration between the Clearlake Bassmasters and the Lake County Sheriff’s Activities Leage (LCSAL), both local nonprofit organizations, made sure that students had a great day. Upon arriving, participants were divided into groups led by Bassmaster volunteers and given the opportunity to learn and practice knot tying and casting. Important information about local fishing and water and sun safety were provided. When ready, participants were fitted with a life vest and headed toward the docks to fish and enjoy a beautiful day at the lake.
The morning concluded with a raffle drawing and all participants won fishing equipment or supplies provided by both organizations. Parents, volunteers and participants then enjoyed a hotdog lunch provided by the LCSAL. For a final surprise, the Bassmasters allowed each participant to take home the pole they had used that day. Life vests were offered at no cost to participating families by the Clearlake Bassmasters.
Volunteers from both of these organizations give generously of their time and resources to ensure that Lake County kids enjoy the outdoors and learn skills that contribute to the pursuit of positive leisure time activities. A kid with a hat, sunscreen, a pole and some worms is all set to enjoy the sport of fishing.
