The bass fishermen at Clear Lake are working had to catch their fish. The catch per day has been averaging four to six fish. The weather has been hot with temperatures in the 90s. Most of the fishermen have been off the lake by 1 p.m.

In recent days, the county has confirmed the presence of blooms in various locations along the shorelines of Clear Lake. The types of cyanobacteria known to be present include Microcystis and Aphanizomenon. While most blue-green algal blooms are not harmful, some can be. Some are capable of producing algal toxins that can be harmful to humans, pets and wildlife. Because it is impossible to tell from a visual inspection whether an algal bloom is toxic, the safest approach is to avoid all blooms. Although toxins can sometimes be present even when a bloom is not obvious, it is generally the case that the worse it looks, the greater likelihood that there could be cyanotoxins.

There are no major tournaments this weekend. Although there are several club tournaments.

This is the time of the year when topwater fishing for bass takes off. The ideal depth to do this type of fishing is 5 to 6 feet. There are literally dozens of topwater lures that will work. You just have to go through them until you find one that produces.

The crappie fishing gets better each day. The trick to success is to keep on the move until you locate schools of fish. This is where your electronics come into play. A few fishermen are fishing from the docks at Library Park and they are catching some fish.

Catfish action continues to be very good on Clear Lake. Gary Hill of Kelseyville has been loading up on catfish at the Clear Lake State Park. Earlier this week he caught a 15 pounder. The crappie fishing at the park is rated as fair.

Indian Valley Reservoir is producing a lot of small bass. The lake is open to fishing and is full. The road going into the lake is in fair shape. The Department of Fish and Wildlife (DWF) will be stocking the lake with trout this summer.

June is the ideal month to take a youngster fishing. Just be patient with them and help them cast and retrieve their lures.
