Lakeport concert goers donate more than $10,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
For years, music fans attending the Lakeport Summer Concert Series have generously donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and 2024 was another great year for donations. This year, concert goers had two ways to donate to this wonderful cause. Lakeport Tire and Auto Service raised more than $2,500 by giving away free bottles of ice-cold water and asking for donations in their booth, while KXBX 98.3 and Bicoastal Media sold raffle tickets and raised more than $7,500. The Summer Concert Series wrapped up August 16 in Lakeport’s Library Park.
“When several people asked us where they could get cold water during the summer concerts, we decided it would be a chance to highlight the amazing work done at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital”, said Steve Short, owner at Lakeport Tire and Auto Service. “We’ve had coolers full of ice-cold water at the Lakeport Tire and Auto Service booth during the concerts and we simply asked people to donate to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. It has absolutely touched my heart to see the outpouring of donations, and to hear so many stories from area residents whose lives have been affected by St.
Jude Children’s Research Hospital.” Lakeport Tire and Auto Service raised $2,528 during this year’s Summer Concert Series and, combined with the $3,315 raised last year, they’ve raised $5,843 to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Paul Thomas, General Manager of Bicoastal Media (Lakeport/Ukiah) added “For over 30 years Bicoastal Media has produced the KXBX 98.3 Lakeport Summer Concert Series. For the past five years we have included a raffle to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Every dollar raised during our raffle is donated to the kids of St. Jude. Last year we partnered with Lakeport Tire and Auto Service to combine our efforts and have raised over $22,000 in the last two years.”
Thomas goes on to say “As a company Bicoastal Media has raised over 10 million dollars collectively from all our markets through our radiothons, and events such as the Lakeport Summer Concerts.”
Bicoastal Media is proud to have been awarded the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Radio Partner of the Year twice, in 2011, and most recently in 2023. We value our partnership with Lakeport Tire and Auto service and look forward to more great concert series in the years to come.”
The combined total from these two fundraisers totals $10,030 this year. Lakeport Tire and Auto Service has been a major Sponsor of the Summer Concert Series for the past three years, along with several other local businesses and non-profit organizations.

Senate Leader Mike McGuire issues statement on Governor’s call for special session
“We have all been working on this California Made and Clean Energy Package for months, and some of these proposals have been in discussions for the better part of a year. The Senate always had the votes and was ready to get these important measures across the finish line this legislative year and deliver the relief Californians need at the pump and on their electricity bills. We won’t be convening a special session this fall, but we look forward to continuing conversations with the Governor and Speaker about this critical issue in the days and weeks to come.”
Mike McGuire is President pro Tempore of the California Senate. He represents the North Coast of California, which stretches from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon border, including Del Norte, Trinity, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, Sonoma, and Marin counties.
