City lowers flags in honor of Congressman’s Deputy Chief of Staff’s passing

The City of Lakeport lowered all flags at city buildings and facilities on Monday and Tuesday of this week in honor of the life and service of Brad Onorato, Deputy Chief of Staff to Congressman Mike Thompson.  Onorato died on September 19 at the age of 66 after a long battle with cancer.

Onorato was a steadfast advocate for the Lakeport and Lake County communities, known for his approachability, vast knowledge, good humor and unwavering commitment to tackling even the most challenging issues.

“Brad could be counted on to be one of the first people to reach out to City officials and staff in all emergencies, large and small,” said City Manager Kevin Ingram.  “He was always there for Lakeport, addressing concerns with compassion and a focus on how the community might be impacted by decisions.  The world needs more people like Brad in it.”

Lakeport Mayor Michael Froio expressed his condolences, “I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Brad Onorato.  He was such a kind man and a very good listener.  My heart goes out to his family, friends and the people he served so well.  He will be missed.”

Onorato was an essential member of Thompson’s Senate and Congressional teams for 34 years, serving the people of Lake County with compassion and dedication.  His contribution to public service will be remembered fondly by all in Lakeport who had the privilege of working with him.

The City of Lakeport joins Congressman Thompson, the Onorato family and the greater community in mourning the loss of a great public servant and friend.

Details for a memorial service will be shared at a later date by Thompson’s office.

Free Grief and Healing Group

Hospice Services of Lake County is beginning another series of meetings to help adults who have experienced the death of a loved one, either recently or in the past groups start on Thursday and run eight weeks on Thursdays through November 14.

Recognizing there is not just a single way through grief, Hospice Services’ bereavement program will present “The Journey Through Grief,” a free, educational series. The grief and loss group will meet once a week for eight weeks starting September from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays at the in Clearlake. Pre-registration is required.

Group sessions are structured with combined instruction and discussion in a safe environment, facilitated by trained Bereavement counselors. “In our world today, we are being challenged by losses of all kinds. In addition to these, many of us are trying to also navigate grief due to the death of a loved one” states Bereavement Services Manager Kathleen Bradley. “In our groups, we companion and support each other as we attempt to find our footing and a new normal. Within each session, we cover and discuss various aspects of grief and loss as well as take time to honor our special connections.” states Bradley.

Weekly topics are presented in a meaningful sequence, so attendance at all sessions is essential. Examples of topics covered in groups include setting intentions to heal, dispelling misconceptions about grief, exploring personal feelings of loss, seeking resolution, and self-care.

Hospice Services of Lake County provides high quality medical, emotional and spiritual care to help patients and their families navigate their end-of-life journeys.
