CLEARLAKE>>> This year, the Clearlake Soap Box Derby has been renamed in honor of Robert Viramontes, a dedicated senior maintenance worker for the City of Clearlake and a beloved member of our community. Robert passed away unexpectedly in January, 2023, at age 51, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and an infectious sense of humor.

Robert, who moved to Lake County in 2010 with his wife, Tina, quickly became an integral part of Clearlake. He was deeply committed to his work for the City, where he contributed to countless projects with dedication and a positive attitude. His love for the community was evident, not just in his work but in how he supported local events like the Soap Box Derby, helping behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly.

His wife, Tina, who is Clearlake’s Parks and Rec. Coordinator, fondly recalls, “Robert was always Clearlake’s biggest supporter and particularly enjoyed volunteering during the Soap Box Derby. His involvement and enthusiasm for the event made naming it after him a fitting tribute to his generous and supportive spirit.”

The Robert Viramontes Memorial Soap Box Derby will forever serve as a reminder of Robert’s lasting impact on our community and his unwavering commitment to making Clearlake a better place for everyone.
