Due to an auto accident and other underlying health conditions, Terry Knight’s retirement has become official.

And we thought it would be nice to share a little backstory on the local legend of Terry Knight. For those that don’t know him, he was born in Northern Minnesota on the Big Fork River in a cabin with no electricity. There he learned how to hunt, trap and log and where he fell in love with nature..

Following in his father’s footsteps, Terry joined the military and after 12 years of service and many years in civil service Terry, and his wife Lois, decided to retire in Lake County where he fell in love with Clear Lake and the surrounding mountains.

Terry has been part of Lakeport’s outdoor community in many different aspects from helping with the Junior pheasant hunts, putting on turkey seminars for new hunters, to participating in bass tournaments, but he is probably best known for his outdoor columns covering everything from fishing to hunting to the history of the lake. Terry has written for the Record Bee for decades, and also for countless other magazines such as Wilderness, Unlimited Field and Streams, and even an article for National Geographic, just to name a few.

Through his articles Terry has reached countless readers.  His wife Lois always dreaded the hunting seasons, because the  phone would always be ringing off the hook with people asking where the turkeys were, or how many deer people have been seeing. After his wife’s passing in 2015, he kept moving forward. He lent his talents to a weekly radio show at KPFZ community radio and volunteered with hospice and many other organizations.

Terry is being surrounded by friends and family. Terry we want to say we will miss your stories  And thank you for your contributions to the community.
