Lake County Theatre Company presents: A Christmas Carol

The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than with a classic? The Lake County Theatre Company invites you to enjoy A Christmas Carol – with a twist! This year, we’re bringing Charles Dickens’ timeless story to life with a live reading including live foley sound effects performance and live musicians that will whisk you straight to Victorian England (without ever leaving Lake County).

Catch Us at Weaver Auditorium!

First up, we’ll be performing at the historic Weaver Auditorium, right above the schoolhouse and museum in Lower Lake. Come experience the magic on November 30 and December 1 – it’s an evening filled with festive fun, laughter, and all the warm-hearted holiday spirit you love about A Christmas Carol.  Bring your friends and family to enjoy Scrooge’s journey from “Bah, humbug” to holiday cheer in an intimate setting that feels just like home.

Tune In On the Radio or see us live at the Soper Reese!

We’re excited to bring this story to the airwaves too! Thanks to our friends at KPFZ, you can listen to A Christmas Carol as a live radio play, or join us in person at the Soper Reese Theater in Lakeport on December 7 and 8 for an evening of classic storytelling, foley artistry, live music, and community spirit. Stay tuned for the specific date and time of the live radio broadcast.

Let’s Celebrate the Season Together!

Here at the Lake County Theatre Company, we’re committed to sharing live theater with every corner of our community, from the stage to the airwaves. It’s our mission to bring people together, inspire creativity, and spread joy, but we can’t do it without you! We welcome anyone interested in joining us – whether on stage or behind the scenes – or partnering with us through sponsorships to make Lake County theater a reality all year long.

On Nov. 4, 2024, Tara Parker, fourth grade teacher at Minnie Cannon Elementary School in Middletown Unified School District, was given one of the 95 $100 grants awarded to teachers by the California Retired Teachers Association (CalRTA). Ms. Parker applied for the grant at the beginning of the 2024 school year.

Judy Fletcher and Lela Prather, members of CalRTA Division 35 board, made the presentation at Ms. Parker’s school staff meeting. She was also given a “goodie bag” filled with lots of classroom supplies to be used any way she chooses.

There were over 11,000 teachers in California who applied for these grants. So having a winner in Lake County is quite an honor. CalRTA Division 35, congratulates Tara for receiving this money to help with expenses for student supplies!

Another 35 $100 grants will become available in the beginning of the 2025. To apply teachers just simply go the calrta.org website, find the section on teacher grants and fill out the simple application. Please share this information with teachers.

LAKEPORT

CalEPA Lead Service Line inventory results

The City of Lakeport Utilities Department has completed the initial Lead Service Line (LSL) inventory required by the U.S. EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions, part of a nationwide mandate for water systems across the United States. Utility crews conducted inspections of all city service lines, working diligently from mid-August through the end of September to ensure a thorough and accurate inventory.

Through completing a historical records review, employee interviews, and field investigations of all service lines, the City of Lakeport has determined that it has no lead or galvanized service lines requiring replacement in its distribution system. This includes any privately owned or customer-owned service lines.

The City of Lakeport reviewed all applicable sources of information, including:

  • All available water system records, historical records of City Council Agendas and Minutes dating back to the 1920s, historical capital improvement and master plans, and historical building and plumbing code ordinances;
  • All inspections and records of the distribution system that indicate service line material, including inspections conducted during the course of normal operations (e.g., checking service line materials when reading water meters or performing maintenance activities) and
  • Interviews of current and past Utility staff totaling over 80 years of service who also confirmed no lead lines were encountered during their tenure.

In addition to reviewing the above sources of information, the City of Lakeport physically inspected all service lines in its distribution system, regardless of ownership. All service lines were verified non-lead, with 52% being plastic, 39% copper, 7.4% galvanized not requiring replacement, and 1.6% non-lead other (cast iron).

If you would like to learn more about the lead service line inventory, the California Water Boards Division of Drinking Water provides a robust resource page here: https://www.waterboards.ca.gov/drinking_water/certlic/drinkingwater/lead-copper-rule/

If you have any questions or want additional information, please get in touch with the City of Lakeport Utilities Department at (707) 263-3578 ext. 403 or email jbaker@cityoflakeport.com.

Thank you for your attention to this important update and your continued trust in the City of Lakeport’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality drinking water.
