Join Us on Sunday January 12, from 3:30-5pm at Middletown Art Center for a Celebratory Reception and Dedication of the Water Baskets. Tribal and
civic leaders as well the artists will be present. Refreshments will be available.
Those wishing to walk up to the Water Baskets on Rabbit Hill are encouraged to do so following opening remarks by Middletown Rancheria Tribal Chair Moke Simon and other speakers and enjoying the reception. The Water Baskets are particularly spectacular during the golden hour, at sunset, or dusk! The Water Baskets honor the cultural legacy of the original stewards of this land, and the Indigenous flora and fauna of the Middletown area, known in Kóotsa-ataw as “Wiilokyomi” – Dusty Place. The project also reflects the unification, regeneration, and revitalization of the Middletown community as a whole, post Valley Fire. Water is Life.

The designs TSÚKLI – TO SHINE FORTH by Trelasa Baratta (right) and ECHOES OF THE LAND by Lorraine Triana Rueda (left) are inspired by Pomo basketry – central to the cultural heritage of the original people of this region. Pomo Baskets are renowned worldwide for excellence in aesthetics, craftsmanship durability, and form and function. The design patterns are reflective of the natural world, and rooted in this place.
Water Basket is a collaboration between Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indians, of California, Callayomi County Water District, and the Middletown Art Center (MAC).
