
CLEARLAKE OAKS >>A young student stood out of a crowded field of anglers at the Catfish Derby this year.
Seven-year-old Ashlie Cornilsen from Sutherlin, Oregon, hooked one of the largest catches of the day. Ashlie caught a 21.09 pound catfish on Saturday May 17. It earned her a second place in the Under 10 Division during the annual Catfish Derby Day.
Eight-year-old Silas Tyner from Clearlake Oaks also managed an impressive haul with a 12.83 pound catfish for his initiative during the Derby.
Meanwhile, Victor King from Clearlake Oaks, competing in the adult division, hauled in a 22.8 pound catfish. It earned him 19th place in the Saturday Derby.
Saturday marked the 41st annual Derby. It was sponsored by the NorthShore Fire Association. There were 995 entries in this year’s Derby.
