Lake County Indivisible joins nationwide ‘Say no to Fascism’ protest

Concerned community members from across Lake County will gather in Lakeport’s Old Courthouse Museum Park at noon on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at the Old Courthouse Museum Park located at 3rd and North Main Street from noon to 2 p.m. to take part in a broad-based, peaceful protest called “Dare to Fight Fascism.”

The public is invited to take a bold public stand to defend democracy and reject authoritarian overreach in all its forms. We’re showing up in Lake County — not as partisans, but as people who believe in liberty, justice, and a government that answers to us.

The Lakeport rally is affiliated with 50501, a national movement of protests in all 50 states and is sponsored by both the Lake County Democrats and Indivisible Lake County CA, a non-partisan group composed of citizens from across the political spectrum who are deeply concerned by the corrupt and dictatorial actions of the Trump Administration.

Indivisible Lake County CA is one of some 1500 local chapters of the national Indivisible movement. The Lake County chapter is a rapidly expanding group of concerned community members led by founding members Peter Windrem, Dr. Gary Maes, Denise Rushing, Annette Hopkins, Bernie Butcher, Elizabeth Montgomery, Bill Groody, and Orla O’Keeffe.

“Across the country, authoritarianism is on the rise — blatant corruption, disregard for the rule of law, and open contempt for the will of the people. On Saturday, August 2, we gather to say: enough.”

The Indivisible Lake County CA leadership group cites such examples as the deployment of US military in California cities, sweeping ICE arrests and deportation of farm workers, hard working immigrants and US citizens without due process,  the  targeting of individuals and institutions perceived as “enemies,” unprecedented personal corruption, usurpation of the constitutional powers of Congress, and defiance of court orders.  The group urges Lake County citizens to “join together in rejecting Trump’s authoritarian vision and show up en masse to make our collective voices heard.

Of particular concern to the group is the impact of these threats on Lake County residents: “It is important to highlight how these actions impact us right here at home.”

Attendees at the August 2  rally are encouraged to visit the Indivisible Lake County website www.indivisiblelakecountyca.com for more information – and to bring water, wear weather-appropriate clothing, bring handmade signs, and, most importantly, to bring their voices.

27 awards earned from American Heart Association

Eighteen hospital campuses across Sutter Health’s not-for-profit network were recognized this week with 27 awards from the American Heart Association as part of the 2025 Get With The Guidelines® program. This national initiative evaluates quality and consistency in care delivery, rewarding top-performing hospitals for outstanding clinical performance in stroke and cardiac care.

Sutter hospitals have consistently participated in the program, earning repeated recognition for their commitment to improving outcomes and standardizing care. This year’s awards are a testament to that dedication.

Stroke Care Awards

Sutter Health operates one of Northern California’s largest integrated stroke care networks, with 17 certified stroke centers. Many of these centers hold advanced designations and are staffed by specialized teams delivering expert care to stroke patients.

“Every minute matters in stroke care, and these awards reflect our relentless focus on delivering timely, high-quality treatment,” said Dr. Nobl Barazangi, a neurologist, stroke specialist and the chief of stroke care for Sutter Health. “From emergency response to advanced imaging and rehab, we’re aligning every part of our system to support the best possible outcomes.”

This year 16 Sutter hospital campuses earned the Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award — the highest level of recognition possible

Additionally, Sutter Lakeside Hospital earned the Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Silver Plus quality achievement award.

Target: Stroke Honor Roll Recognition

The Target: Stroke Honor Roll recognizes hospitals for reducing the time between emergency department arrival and stroke treatment.

Ten Sutter hospital campuses earned the highest level of recognition — Target: Stroke Elite Plus including Sutter Lakeside Hospital. “Our teams are laser-focused on delivering the highest-quality cardiac care across urban and rural settings,” said Dr. Powell Jose, Sutter Medical Group cardiologist and section chief of general cardiology for Sutter’s heart and vascular service line. “These awards underscore the strength of our integrated care model, our commitment to rapid response, and our dedication to advancing treatment through innovation and compassion.” Sutter was also recognized for their care of Type 2 Diabetes, advanced therapy and heart and cardiovascular care.
