MATH July meeting minutes

At the Middletown Area Town Hall during their July meeting, the guest speaker was Lars Ewing, Lake County Public Services. Ewing gave a presentation on proposed new park at former Sutter Health site (long-term lease to County).

The GSM Landscape Architect prepared 3 concept designs.

Community feedback: preserve trees, gathering spaces, contemplative area, skate park, dog park,  sports courts (pickleball, basketball, bocce), fitness equipment, shaded playground, parking  concerns, and safety considerations.

Public Input Highlights included: Linda Diehl-Darms – Central Park/FFA/Lions Club fundraiser with Silver Creek Band, Aug. 15, 4 to 10 p.m. (dinner 4 to 6 p.m.).

Julia Bono informed about a potluck and music, Rainbow Church of Living Light, Sat., July 12, 6 to 8 p.m.  Lisa Kaplan – Alana Clear Lake artist retrospective, MAC, Sat., July 12, 6 to 8 p.m. and District 1 Supervisor Helen Owens spoke about the Lake County Rodeo, July 11 to 12 at the Lakeport Fairgrounds.

Tara Ybarra reported on Movies in the Park, Saturday July 12.

Bylaws

There was a motion to limit debate to 10 minutes – Passed (18 yes, 2 no).

Another motion to finalize and send bylaws to Board of Supervisors – Passed (18 yes, 2 no). Correspondence & Announcements

Info was given on Caltrans Safety Projects Meeting – Aug. 7, 6 to 7:30 p.m., Middletown Community Room. The Lake Area Planning Council – Zero Emissions Vehicle Infrastructure Plan, and the Guenoc Valley/Maha Project – Planning Commission hearing July 24.

A motion for special MATH meeting with Maha passed; possible dates given were July 15, 22, 23; Bill Waite was to coordinate.

Future agenda items included a presentation by Sonoma Clean Power, the naming of the new park and a Caltrans follow-up from Aug. 7 meeting.

Westport Volunteer Fire Department fundraising barbecue

Bay Area Talking Heads tribute band “Burning Down the House.”

Barbecued brats and loaded baked potatoes will be for sale. Local artisan craft beer, wine, coffee,  sweets and non-alcoholic beverages can also be purchased.

There will be plenty of fun activities for the whole family, including two bounce houses, face painting and a children’s obstacle course. Craft merchants will be selling their wares, and there will also be a silent auction of some very special items. A medical helicopter from Reach/CalStar may pay us a visit if weather and availability cooperate. (Sorry, no dogs.)

The Westport Volunteer Fire Department provides year-round initial 911 emergency response service 24/7 for medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, traumatic injuries and fires on the Northern Mendocino Coast. Our response area now covers roughly 190 square miles. Proceeds of the event will be used to fund The Westport Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its Annual Fundraising Barbecue on Saturday Aug. 16, 2025, from noon until dusk. Enjoy an afternoon of fun and great live music on the spectacular Westport Headlands, while helping support the Westport Volunteer Fire Department.  Admission is free.

Live music will be provided by Steven Bates, Caspar Kings, Moon Rabbit, the Steven Bates Band and the critical upgrades to a new quick attack emergency response vehicle.
