Oliver Gene Renner OBITUARY

Oliver Gene Renner OBITUARY

In Memory of Oliver Gene Renner Oliver Gene Renner, was born September 12, 1941. The family lived on a farm in South Dakota, where Gene’s mother and her sister waited patiently for the rural Doctor to arrive to deliver the new baby. The Doctor arrived with the anxious father to see the wonderful little baby boy already sleeping in his cradle. Gene was the youngest of five and had happy memories of his early years living on the farm. The family moved to Buena Park California CA when Gene was eight. After graduating from the newly built Buena Park high School in 1959, he followed his brother Howard to Santa Barbara where he attended college. He headed back to his home and joined the Marine corps. His military experience led him to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He found his calling in the department, proud of his responsibility to care for the public. While serving in the Sheriff’s Department he was instrumental in forming the L.A. County Deputy Sheriffs Association, serving five years as President. He loved sharing his exploits with his Lake County friends, his stories have become legend with so many. The men and women in the Department remained loyally in his life until the end. He received a medical retirement from the Sheriff’s Department in 1983, and moved to northern California to enter the tire business. Most men in the Renner family either worked in or would eventually work in the tire business. Big O Tires was the family business! He began with his first store in Yuba City, before transitioning to Big O Tires corporate in Vacaville. After a few years he missed the daily action of tire store ownership and moved to the Sacramento area to oversee the Big O Store in Carmichael, before eventually settling in Clear Lake. Even in his sixties, he could still wrench in the service lane with the speed and strength of any twenty something. Gene eventually transitioned his store to Tire Pros and finally retired in 2015, well into his seventies. Gene was an avid golfer and loved the retirement life in Arizona where he would play several times per week. He further enjoyed his Arizona billiard playing friends ~ they won the championship against the other, more heavily favored retirement community. And, always being strong and fit, he continued to hit the weight room in a manner consistent with a US Marine. He followed sports all his life, continuing to enjoy his special football team, the LA Rams. A lover of baseball, he also was a little league coach for his son Eric’s team, and later watched with pride as his son excelled in swimming at the DI level for Sacramento State in the NCAA. Gene met the love of his life, Jane McKnight, in 1989 and they were together for 37 years, only being separated by his passing. They enjoyed many wonderful moments together, weekend trips to the coast, Puerto Rico, cruises, and trips to Europe. Gene entered into heaven and into the loving arms of Jesus October 29, 2024. He is overwhelmingly missed by a large and loving family, and many friends. He is survived by his son Eric, his older brother Howard, three step sons, three stepdaughters, seventeen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and his wife Jane. A celebration of his life will be held next month on June 7th at the Buckingham Homeowners Association Clubhouse, located at 2850 Eastlake Drive, Kelseyville, CA 95451. Please join us at 2:30 PM to honor this amazing man. There will be a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, Gene would have preferred donations made to the United Veterans Council of Lake County.
